Adventure In Miramichi evolved from team members attending an outdoor education conference in Idaho in 2007. Wow! ~ many of the activities offered at this conference resonated with the culture of the Miramichi and the desire to seek adventure beyond the norms or the traditional Physical Education Curriculum Outcomes that were currently provided. There, we were introduced to a variety of outdoor initiatives, many of which we now offer in our program.
AIM really began as an educational concept as an integral part of School District 16’s Physical Education program. With an already well established outdoor pursuits program, we implemented several activities and programs into our schools including paddling, snowshoeing, hiking, geocaching, and camping. We continued to foster the growth of outdoor education through 2008. During that time we were able to secure funding to implement new activities to provide additional adventure/outdoor opportunities for our students.
In 2009 we were fortunate to acquire funds to design, build and install a High Elements Challenge Course at Miramcihi Valley High School. In addition, an indoor climbing system was installed which included prusik climbing and a ‘flexible climbing wall’. Our team members are all certified Challenge Course practitioners having been accredited through several training institutes.
In the summer of 2010 we offered our first summer adventure camps for youth based on numerous requests from community stakeholders. The camps were very well received. In the past year and a half our Adventure Team has attended conferences and training which have allowed us to offer archery, skateboarding and outdoor cooking, all of which have been huge hits with our participants.
Through community partnerships we were able to provide new opportunities and outdoor adventure for youth in Miramichi. Not to forget, much of what we offer can be adapted to suit adults, teams, and corporate groups aiming at improving group dynamics.
In short, our 8 member team has a wealth of experience in a variety of areas. We all come from an educational background. Three of us have administrative experience. We all have diverse backgrounds, but we have a common passion – We like adventure! We also have an extended group of team members who can assist with various programs.

People have joined us from all over the Canada and several countries around the world. We help ensure a successful experience by taking the time to match each student with the most appropriate adventure considering age and challenge level. When motivated students are teamed with excellent counselors and guides in a positive community, they make long-lasting friendships, learn valuable skills, and have the time of their lives.
